Let us not abandon sinners but offer them Forgiveness...

Money is the "anti-god".
How can we cease betraying one another?
This year Pope Francis presided over the Way of the Cross at the Colosseum in Rome and it was live-broadcasted in Italian. You can follow the live broadcast with the Meditations from the Vatican website.

In a beautifully solemn and thoughtful ceremony, the cross was carried by many different people, each choice highlighting our capabilities for inhumanity, forcing us to face head-on the outraged indignity and suffering that inhumanity causes through outlining key issues of our time and praying to seek truth, reconciliation and justice for all.

Compassion is not enough.
By recognizing Jesus in everyone, we are compelled to act in kindness and shared suffering.

How can we serve those who need us?

"We must be servants for one another."
How can we best serve those who need us most in our families, our communities and beyond with the love they need?

See Action Alerts and Spotlight.

On Holy Thursday Mass at the Santa Maria della Priwidenza centre in Rome, Pope Francis, in memory of Jesus, washed the feet of twelve people with disabilities: eight men and four women aged sixteen to eighty-six, all bar three of whom were Italian with one person of the Muslim faith among the three foreigners. He reminds us that this farewell and revolutionary gesture from Jesus to his apostles was chosen out of love for them, bidding them to be servants in love of all humankind in his memory. As we celebrated The Last Supper in His memory, so, we are also called to love one another and to serve each other with love.

"The political process has as its final aim the enhancement of the common good, not only that of the citizens of one’s own country but that of the whole world."
On Holy Thursday, April 17, 2014, the Most Reverend Paul-André Durocher, Archbishop of Gatineau and President of the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB), wrote to Prime Minister Stephen Harper about "issues and places where humanity is suffering and at risk" at home and around the world. In his introduction, Archbishop Durocher notes that "our times are filled with serious challenges, including the economy, employment, the environment, the rights of Indigenous Peoples, and personal and national security." "These issues," the President continues, "have profound impact on our human life and dignity, and are all the more complex by being so intertwined, not only with each other but also with their underlying moral and spiritual dimensions." Forgiveness is not human, it's divine

The As We Forgive Rwanda Initiative (AWFRI) is a Rwandan-led effort to transform communities by inspiring a grassroots movement of repentance, forgiveness, and reconciliation nationwide. Rooted in the Biblical values of forgiveness, repentance, and reconciliation based on the teachings of Jesus Christ, AWFRI seeks to equip leaders, engage youth, develop new media, and promote community development. AWFRI firmly believes that authentic transformation can occur in post-conflict societies through the radical decision to repent and forgive.

The documentary "As we forgive" tells the story of the power and pain of radical reconciliation.

The twentieth anniversary of the Rwandan genocide started on the 7 April 2014. As people remember and continually seek to forgive, let us pray for continued commitment and support at National and International levels for the hard-won light that is making Rwanda a beacon in Africa so that potential triggers like the noting of someone's ethnicity on their I.D. remains a thing of the past.

The As we Forgive documentary site offers other resources including a study guide. Question 7 is one we might explore during the rest of Lent: Does hearing stories of radical forgiveness in Rwanda shed different light on areas in your own life where it has been either hard to forgive or
hard to ask for forgiveness?
