Goal 1: A Church that is Poor and for the Poor Challenge 1: Since we are Church, what specific action can I take this month to demonstrate that, as a Franciscan, I am for the poor? Commitments/Actions:
| Following up on JPIC in Fraternity, the St. Francis of Assisi Fraternity had a great response to the challenge to anonymously provide answers to what fraternity members could do to demonstrate that they are for the poor. See the responses to the left. At their February meeting, they focused on Pope Francis’ second goal: A Church that Welcomes and Doesn’t Judge. Fraternity members have agreed to try and respond to St. Francis’ act of kissing the leper with the challenge: What specific action can I take this coming month to demonstrate that, as a Franciscan, I am welcoming and non-judgmental of ‘lepers’? At their fraternity meeting, March 9, they will once again collect written anonymous responses. Thank you for keeping us in the loop Mike, Doug, Louise and Marion. Looking forward to reading the responses next month. As you say, good habits are formed from responding again. |

The Justice, Peace and Integrity of Creation (JPIC) Committee of St. Francis of Assisi Fraternity, Cornwall, PEI, Michael Cassidy, Doug Hagen, Louise Larkin and Marion Marshall would like to share with all of us their recent one and a half page document of tips for organising JPIC in Fraternity so that JPIC can be integrated in to our daily routines. Here are their tips in a nutshell:
The document also lists some issues / concerns under each component of JPIC with suggested practical activities that many fraternities might already have undertaken e.g. buying locally-produced foods; recycling and re-using materials; using Fair Trade coffee at home and at meetings; volunteering at the local soup kitchen and avoiding the use of plastic and Styrofoam at large gatherings.
Thank you for sharing your tips. The original document is now available for download on our Formation page. Please keep your ideas coming so that we can continue to help each other in our JPIC focus. |
Fraternity in Action -This page is for fraternities to share their JPIC goals, initiatives and progress. We can learn so much from each other. Fraternities, please send us what you are doing. TRANSLATE THIS PAGE
