In 1981, Friar Ed Debono, OFM Conv asked P. Léandre Poirier, OFM Conv to give a history lecture of the earliest Franciscans to arrive in Canada. They were known as Franciscan Recollets. This is an interesting read for Canadian Franciscans. Thank you Friar Ed Debono for sharing this.

“The journey of the Secular Franciscans in the Synodal Church” The Secular Franciscans have the obligation to participate in the initiatives promoted by the Holy See (GGCC 99.1) and to be actively present in the Church (GGCC 31.2). Now that the Church is emphasizing on Synodality as a journeying together, we have to be in the fore front of the march. We can do it through sharing our faith-experience, by becoming missionary disciples, by our prayer life, through the renewal of our personal lives and by going out to the peripheries of the Church and the society. Let the Holy Spirit give us new fervor to live our faith as Secular Franciscans in the third millennium. ...Learn More
Aug 18, 2021 - by Daniel P. Horan Environmental activists protest outside the White House in Washington June 30 to demand President Joe Biden stop fossil fuel projects and put "climate justice" at the heart of his infrastructure plans. (CNS/Reuters/Evelyn Hockstein) Those of us who have been following the ravaging consequences of global climate change for some time were not surprised by the major report issued last week by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). In short, it is "terrifying," as one headline in The New Yorker accurately described it. The gist of the findings is that the persistent denialism and widespread inaction on the part of many nations and global corporations over decades has set in motion an irreversible sequence that will result in the planet's warming "intensifying over the next 30 years."
We have done this to our planet and we, as a species, are responsible.

1. MUSICAL NOTATION
1.1. A new musical score Advent is almost over, and Christmas is already upon us! Only a few days separate us from the end of the year 2020, but already we can say that it has been a very particular year. Over the last few months, it seems that we have experienced as much as we normally would in a decade. Because of issues such as the virus, political changes, protests in so many countries, tensions, wars, intolerance, environmental issues, chaotic streams of information, our experience is that the world has become darker and, as a result of factors that include assorted lockdowns, also more closed [see Pope Francis, Fratelli tutti (FT), Chapter one: Dark Clouds over a Closed World, nos. 9-55]. It is precisely at this moment in history that Pope Francis has given us his Encyclical, Fratelli tutti..... READ THE COMPLETE LETTER It is an important message from the six Ministers General of the Franciscan Family including Tibor Kauser ofs Sept. 1, the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation, marked the beginning of the Season of Creation. It extends to Oct. 4th, the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi. During this time Christians of all different faith communities will unite in prayer and action on behalf of creation and our planet and invite everyone to participate. Pope Francis began his encyclical on "Care of our Common Home." with words "Laudate Si', me Signore." "Praise be to you, my Lord", the first few words in Italian of the Canticle of the Creatures. In the Canticle of the Creatures, St. Francis reminds us that our common home is like a sister with whom we share our life. Our common home is also like a mother who opens her arms to all. "Praise be to you, my Lord, through our Sister, Mother Earth, who sustains and governs us and who procures various fruits with coloured flowers and herbs." Mother Earth is crying out to us because of the harm we have inflicted on her by our irresponsible use. Mother Earth is crying out to us because of the harm we have inflicted on her by our irresponsible use. Humankind is abusing the natural goods of Mother Earth which God, our Creator, has, endowed her.
We have misunderstood for too long a time, the Book of Genesis and have translated the message to give us dominion over the earth. A misunderstanding that has to be undone. We have come to see ourselves as masters of minerals, fossil fuels, forests and water. We see governments, corporations and businesses as being entitled to plunder Mother Earth wherever, whenever and however they will. The face of Mother Earth is wounded by fires to clear the forests for profit, by mercury deposited in our waterways, fossil fuel smoke polluting the air. All these destructive practices affect water, air, land and all forms of life, plants, creatures of the sea, animals, birds and human life. Because the earth is being mistreated we are experiencing climate change. Unite in prayer and action on behalf of creation and our planet and invite everyone to participate. Friar Ed Debono, OFM Conv. Fr. Pierre was the director of SIAF with which Franciscan Voice Canada has partnered in our collective JPIC work. This is a big loss for SIAF. May he rest eternally with our Lord - FVC
