"Heading for extinction and what to do about it" by Gail Bradbrook, PhD (50 mins 33 secs) The film starts out hopeless and hard to hear but ends on a hopeful note. Bradbrook was born in 1972 and grew up in South Elmsall in Yorkshire, England. Her father worked at a mine in South Kirkby. She studied molecular biophysics at the University of Manchester and carried on with a PhD. She carried out post-doctoral work in India and France. In 2015, with George Barda, she set up the group Compassionate Revolution which morphed into Rising Up!, out of which came Extinction Rebellion (XR). She is protesting to raise awareness of the dangers from anthropogenic climate change and believes that only civil disobedience on a large scale can bring about the change that is needed.
With over 65 million people in the world today forcibly displaced from their homes, internationally renowned artist and filmmaker Ai Weiwei examines the staggering scale of the global refugee crisis. He goes deep inside to get a personal look at refugees and what they go through. Filmed across 23 countries, we get an inside look at Syrian and African refugees, among others, and the struggles and anguish they face in their efforts to get to safe ground where they can raise families and not fear for their lives on a daily basis.
